Don't think you can get your workout in for the day? Wrong! Even if you only have a few minutes to spare, there's always time to give your body that mind-body workout it craves. Don't let time be your excuse for not getting your heart rate up.
Remember, any form of working out is one step closer to boosting your energy with exercise ... and reaching your goal than you were the day before.
Here are five ways to be active in just five minutes!
Whether it's from your parking spot at the mall or a climb up a flight of stairs, take the trip. It may be more convenient for you to battle it out for that front space by the department stores, but in reality, the time you're taking to drive around in circles playing parking roulette could be spent walking to your destination. Does that staircase really look that bad? While escalators and elevators are handy, the stairs were there first. It may not be much, but it'll add that much more to your daily workout. If you're able, take the longer "road."
When you're watching your favorite TV show, do you ever think of working out during those annoying commercials? You might be able to skip them with your DVR, but don't. Creating your own little workout for that duration of time will improve your fitness. Think of it this way: there are about 3-4 commercial breaks during a 1 hour show, and that can add up to 20 minutes of a workout without even leaving the TV. Try a quick ab workout with crunches and planks, or a floor circuit to work your legs. If you want to keep going after your show comes back on … no one said you couldn't multi-task!
As soon as your feet touch the floor after you wake up, make the effort to do a quick morning stretch. Waking up your body's muscles will feel good and also get your blood pumping as your day begins. Allowing your muscles to loosen up is a good way to avoid feeling stiff and tight. Take a few deep breaths and plan your day while you stretch. It's a mind-body exercise that can put you on a positive path for the day.
Before making your way to the shower, try to do a quick round of squats, leg lifts, or any small exercise. It'll jump start your heart, wake you up, and you won't have to worry about being a little sweaty, since you're heading to the shower anyway. Your body will thank you, and you can thank yourself for the results after you get into the routine of doing that quick workout every day.
Anytime you find yourself with some free time on your hands, stay active. While boredom and laziness kicks in every so often, find the motivation to add in a few moves that will tone your body and get your heart going. Anything that involves movement is definitely better than sitting on the couch.
These are just a few ways you can incorporate more activity into your daily routine.
Once you start making it a habit, it's easy to fit those quick workouts into your schedule!
